| Flora and Fauna Observation in San Pedro Atacama |

Due to its climate and its altitude, in the atacama desert you can find a very special flora and fauna. In this high altitude habitat of salt deposits and wetlands, tourists encounter a unique flora and fauna, especially the Flamingo National Reserve that is divided into 7 areas.
The most abundant plants found in its flora are: llareta, paja brava, cachiyuyo, etc. In the fauna, the most outstanding animals found are: flamingoes, vicuñas, culpeo fox, vizcacha, and more. It is highly recommended that you bring binoculars for a better view.
Chaxa: In this Natural Reserve you can see three types of Parinas or Flamencos. Miscanti & Miñiques Lagoon: The horned coot (Tagua Cornuda) nests every year in this area.
Guatin Stream: Here you can see an ancient cactus forest, and other kind of flora like the “cola de zorro” (Fox tail) and the “rica-rica”.
Pujsa Salt Flat: You can find a lot of diferent kind of flamingoes in this area.
Tara Salt Flat: Great place to spot flamencos, vizcachas, llamas y chululos.
Quepiaco Wetland: CThis wetland is located on the road to Jama, it is common to see groups of vicuñas, ducks and even flamingoes in this area. Machuca & Putana Wetlands: A great variety of birds can be found in these beautiful wetlands such as the “puna duck”, the giant coot, the andean goose, and the pitio among others.
