Rock ArtRock Art is considered one of the most important demonstrations of pre hispanic Atacamenian art.  It is mainly used as a way to show routes and roads, hunting zones and water fields, to determine territories or to simply wish a nice trip ...

The designs were mostly naturalistic such as the camélidos (a type of llama) or abstract figures. The most used techniques were: Rock ArtPetroglyph: or rock engraving, was done directly on the rock through smacks with other rocks or harder materials, or by scraping it. Today, we can enjoy and appreciate this rock art technique in places like Lasana, Hierbas Buenas or Catalorco.

Pictography: consisted in painting the rocks with mixtures of earthy pigments with animal oils, applying this technique directly on the fingertips. Today we can appreciate this technique in Peine and Ayquina.

It is possible to see some of it in Taira. Geoglyphs: figures of big dimensions made with the collection of small rocks over slopes of hills and ravines. This form of rock art expression can be seen in Chug Chug in the Atacama Desert, and to the South of Quillagua.
