San Pedro de Atacama has a high altitude desert climate, characterized by abrupt changes in the temperature, strong winds, great solar radiation, scarce rainfall (on average 35mm per year), and great thermal fluctuations between the day and the night. In the summer (December - February), the temperature ranges from 30 °C during the day to 16 °C at night, with rain and electrical storms due to the Bolivian winter. During the winter (June - August), the temperature is approximately 22°C during the daytime and drops to 4°C at night. In the springtime (September - November), there are strong winds that can reach a speed of over 100 km/hr.
